How it Happened
Boston College (23-21) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back, tacking on another run in the second to move ahead 6-0 before the Rams first scored in the bottom of the third.

Jordan Powell drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI single by Chris Hess. Martin Taveras followed with a two-run double that plated Hess and Derek Gardella to cut the Eagles' lead in half at 6-3.

Rhody (17-18-1) made it a two-run game in the bottom of the fourth as Nick DeRegis led off with a single to short, stole second, advanced to third on Mike Sherburne's single back to the mound and scored on a groundout by Powell.

The Rams were unable to get any closer though, sending just three men to the plate in each of the next five innings. Meanwhile, BC used a pair of two-out doubles in the seventh to push the score to 8-4.

Inside the Box Score

  • Redshirt freshman Chris Hess and senior Mike Sherburne finished with two hits each for the Rams. Hess also drove in a run and scored once while Sherburne recorded his team-leading 15th stolen base of the season.

  • Sophomore Martin Taveras plated a pair of runs with a third-inning double.

  • Senior Nick DeRegis singled, stole a base and scored a run.

  • Redshirt junior Derek Gardella and freshman Jordan Powell each scored a run after drawing a walk in the bottom of the third. Powell also drove one in the bottom of the fourth while Gardella recorded his fifth caught stealing of the season in the top of the ninth.

  • Redshirt sophomore Ben Wessel was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) over six and two thirds innings. He gave up five in the first and one in the second but settled in and allowed just two base runners through the next four frames. Overall, he allowed eight hits and struck out five with no walks.

  • Redshirt sophomore Matt Ferraiolo gave up back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the seventh before handing the ball over to freshman Dom Grillo.

  • Grillo struck out two without allowing a hit over the next inning and a third. Sophomore Evan Flanagan followed with a scoreless ninth.

  • BC's Geoffrey Murphy picked up the win, allowing just one hit over four shutout innings of relief.

  • Michael Strem paced the Eagles' offense, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
