News Releases
Gov. Kate Brown announced today that she has appointed Jeanne Atkins as Oregon Secretary of State. Atkins will be sworn in at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office at the Capitol.
“Jeanne Atkins will serve Oregon with integrity, transparency and good sense,” Gov. Brown said. “I am pleased to be able to appoint a successor with such impeccable professional credentials.”
Atkins recently retired from the staff of U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, where she served as State Director since 2009. Previously, she was Chief of Staff to the Oregon Speaker of the House of Representatives, and, before that, manager of the Women’s and Reproductive Health Section of the Oregon Department of Human Services Office of Family Health. Atkins has also served as Staff Director in the Oregon Senate Majority Office and worked in public affairs and policy analysis for nonprofit organizations such as the United Way of the Columbia/Willamette, Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette, and the Women’s Equity Action League in Washington, D.C.

Statement from Attorney General Rosenblum on Passing of Oregon Attorney General Frohnmayer
March 10, 2015
“We all mourn the loss of a truly great former Oregon Attorney General (1981-1991) Dave Frohnmayer. I'm pretty sure Dave is the one who described Oregon DOJ as providing the ‘gold standard’ of legal service to state government –and he made sure we did! He was, among his many other accomplishments, a lawyer's lawyer, a brilliant scholar and teacher. Dave was my first year torts professor at the University of Oregon Law School in the 1970's. Since then, he has been a professional colleague and dear friend and mentor. I will miss him very much and extend condolences to his wife, Lynn, his family and all Oregonians who are affected by this tremendous loss.”

OREGON HOUSE REPUBLICAN OFFICE For Immediate Release Thursday, March 12, 2015 Contact: Kara Walker, 407-929-6727 kara.walker@state.or.us Statement From House Republican Leader Mike McLane On Signing Of Senate Bill 324 Salem, OR – House Republican Leader Mike McLane (R-Powell Butte) issued the following statement in response to Governor Brown’s signing of Senate Bill 324: “From unsustainable fuel blending standards to food security and GMO concerns to unchecked increases in fuel prices to a federal criminal investigation, SB 324 is the latest costly government boondoggle imposed upon Oregonians. Additionally, the passage and signing of this bill has squandered away any chance of a bipartisan transportation package that would’ve fixed roads and bridges and improved infrastructure and public safety across the state. It’s unfortunate that Governor Brown today chose to ignore the voices of middle-class and rural Oregonians.”

Traffic Advisory: Winter paving to close lanes on SW Columbia Street from SW 18th Avenue to SW Broadway from March 27 through March 31
(March 25, 2015) – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street improvements will require lane closures on SW Columbia Street from SW 18th Avenue to SW Broadway from Friday, March 23rd through Tuesday, March 31st 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. each weekday.
The lane closures will allow crews to grind the road surface in preparation for paving 1.49 lane miles at a later date.
PBOT street improvement crews work through the winter, adjusting tasks based on weather conditions. Crews will grind down old asphalt and prepare street surfaces for paving even in cold and rainy conditions. They will return to complete paving during a window of dry weather.
Streets with ground down surfaces are open for travel. Lane closures are only in effect during project hours. Access will be maintained for businesses and residents during the project.
The traveling public is advised to expect delays while repairs are being made. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
This work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.
