Don Sutton to be inducted into Braves Hall of Fame
Press Release | April 16, 2015
Induction and pregame ceremony will be held on July 20
The Atlanta Braves announced today that longtime broadcaster Don Sutton will be inducted to the Braves Hall of Fame this summer. The induction luncheon will take place on Monday, July 20, at the 755 Club in Turner Field, and will be followed by a pregame ceremony that evening when the Braves take on the Dodgers.
"Don has been an integral part of the Braves family for decades, and is most deserving of this honor," said Atlanta Braves President John Schuerholz. "Generations of Braves fans have been wowed by his knowledge and charmed by his ability to bring life to the broadcast. He is undoubtedly beloved throughout Braves Country."
Before his broadcast days, Sutton had a stellar playing career that spanned 23 seasons. His Major League career was highlighted by 324 wins with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers and California Angels. Sutton began his career in 1966 with the Dodgers, where he stayed for 16 years and achieved many of his personal bests. Following his time with the Dodgers, he spent intervals of time with the Astros, Brewers and Angels before retiring in 1988. Sutton ranks seventh on baseball's all-time strikeout list with 3,574 and appeared in more than 750 games throughout his career.
In 1989, Sutton joined Turner Sports as an analyst for Braves telecasts on TBS and spent 18 years covering Atlanta. After a two-year stint with the Washington Nationals from 2007-2009, Sutton returned to the Braves broadcast team, where he still resides.
Sutton's baseball accomplishments were recognized and celebrated in 1998 when he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Braves Hall of Fame was established to recognize and honor those players, managers, coaches and other individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the Braves franchise. Sutton will join Hank Aaron, Bill Bartholomay, Lew Burdette, Skip Caray, Bobby Cox, Del Crandall, Ralph Garr, Tom Glavine, Tommy Holmes, Ernie Johnson, Chipper Jones, David Justice, Javy Lopez, Herman Long, Bill Lucas, Greg Maddux, Rabbit Maranville, Eddie Mathews, Dale Murphy, Kid Nichols, Phil Niekro, Dave Pursley, John Sain, John Smoltz, Paul Snyder, Warren Spahn, Ted Turner and Pete Van Wieren.
Tickets to the luncheon and induction ceremony can be purchased by calling the Braves Museum & Hall of Fame at 404-614-2310. Individual tickets are $150 and include the chance to sit with a current or former player, manager, coach or Braves Hall of Famer.
The Braves Museum & Hall of Fame is the starting point of Turner Field tours, and features more than 700 Braves artifacts and photographs that trace the team's history from its beginnings in Boston (1871-1952) to Milwaukee (1953-65) to Atlanta (1966-present). Guided tours take visitors to many areas off limits during games, including the Braves press box, broadcast booth, dugout and more.

ATLANTA (WXIA) – With Earth Day comes a focus on treating the environment in a responsible fashion.
The Atlanta Falcons are building a $1.5 billion facility in downtown Atlanta. Their stadium general manager is one of the country's foremost sports executives in creating and supporting green sustainable structures.
Scott Jenkins is a disciple of environmental responsibility as it relates to sports franchises. He lives large and small.

AS the new stadium rises toward its 2017 completion and opening, Jenkins is focused on not wasting a moment, or wasting anything.
"Since it's 'Trash on Your Back' week, talking trash is a good thing," Jenkins said.
Yes, and talking trash is currency in sports, and on this day, currency is the "trash on your back."
Like so many other organizations and companies, the Atlanta Falcons are going green. Scott Jenkins, who was appointed general manager of the new Atlanta Stadium back in early 2014, is leading the charge.
Scott is on the board of advisors for "Trash on Your Back." You eat or drink it, and you carry the packaging all week on your person.
"I made a mistake last night, and got home from my son's baseball game, and was thirsty," he said. "Tot the fridge I went, grabbed a nearly empty bottle of juice, poured it, drank it, and recycled – oh, not – I have to carry it now."
He is also helping carry a facility under construction that will help change the life of Atlanta.
"We think we will be the most environmentally friendly building out there with two years to go- -But we'll find out when we open with what kind of certification we get through LEED, but we are trying to raise the bar to what anybody has done to date," he said.
So the question is this -- do sports fans really care that it's not easy being green? Jenkins who also heads up the Paul Allen financed Green Sports Alliance says -- oh yeah.
"Within the last year the green sports alliance we surveyed a thousand sports fans from around the country -- 82 percent of sports fans said they are concerned about the environment," Jenkins said.

As for the Falcons football environment, there will be little waste in tandem with technology.
"We will be extremely water efficient -- we'll have renewable energy on site. Our sports lighting will be LED lighting, so most of the LED will last way longer than traditional lighting and will use a fraction of the energy."
The stadium will be treated as an outdoor stadium thus ventilating it naturally, Rain water will be stored -- 680,000 gallons to run the cooling towers -- no domestic water from Atlanta.
"In the short run does it add to the cost? Yes, it does. You have to invest to get something good," Jenkins said. "Usually with an investment there is a return and clearly we are investing a little more money to do it right," Jenkins said.
For now it's building and waiting -- even the mobile offices on site are collecting rainwater. This will be collected for Trees Atlanta. A nice touch -- small as it may be.
