Illinois Chamber of Commerce
Media Contact: Melissa Hahn 217/502-3543 NEWS STATEMENT Todd Maisch, Illinois Chamber President and CEO, Reacts to State of the Budget Address SPRINGFIELD – Feb. 18, 2015 – “Years of fiscal games have come to close with Gov. Bruce Rauner’s state of the budget speech today. The Illinois Chamber has asked for financial stability for years, and acknowledges that this spending outline is what fiscal reality looks like. The business community anticipated the considerable pain in the governor’s speech because taxing and spending was never going to fix the problem. This is the day the check is due. Now is the time to engage in debate on balancing that pain with the insistence that the state only spend the money that’s available. Legislators will have to determine whether they believe some cuts are too painful and negotiate the details given that the state should only spend what it realistically can take in this next year.”

Ibrahim Ahli, Director, Investment Promotion Division, Dubai FDI, presents the delegation's gift to Chamber President & CEO Theresa E. Mintle.
In search of business opportunities and to promote collaboration, a delegation representing the Dubai Department of Economic Development and Dubai Free Trade Zones made its first trip to Chicago on Monday, March 30.
The delegation, led by Mr. Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of Dubai FDI, began the day participating in a breakfast and panel hosted by the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago focused on Dubai’s rapid growth and opportunities for Chicago companies in the thriving city. The event featured one-on-one meetings between Chicago businesses and senior Dubai government officials and decision makers.
Next, the delegation joined leaders from some of Chicago’s top business organizations at the Chamber’s headquarters to discuss what Chicago has to offer businesses in Dubai.
“Many Chicago companies, several of them members of the Chamber, are actively doing business in Dubai, “ said Theresa E. Mintle, President & CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber. “While some Dubai-based businesses have a presence in Chicago, we would love to attract a wider range of companies to the area so we can continue to develop the economic relationship between our two cities.”
Dubai FDI, part of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, provides support to foreign businesses looking to invest in Dubai’s economy and works to make Dubai the preferred investment destination globally. Among the topics discussed during the event and meetings were opportunities in Dubai’s growing economy, particularly in its flourishing tourism and infrastructure sectors.

The Grand Victoria Casino Wednesday announced two of the concerts that will be part of its third season of shows at Festival Park, with George Thorogood and the Destroyers and Brian Setzer's Rockabilly Riot set for June 6 and Heart and Los Lonely Boys set for June 14.
The Grand Victoria is working with Scott Gelman and One Eleven Productions. According to the company's website, Gelman "has produced and promoted such notable talents as The Rolling Stones, U2, Billy Joel, Elton John, Dave Matthews, Jerry Seinfeld, Madonna, Jimmy Buffett, and many others."
Formed in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1970s and featuring sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart became members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The group played Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" in December 2012 at the Kennedy Center Honors before members of that band, President Barack Obama and other dignitaries.
Texas band of brothers and buddies Los Lonely Boys' biggest hit remains "Heaven" from the group's first major label, self-titled 2004 release.
Thorogood has been touring constantly for more than four decades and hit it big in the 1980s with "Bad to the Bone" which was played in heavy rotation on MTV. His band opened for the Rolling Stones on their 1981 tour.
Setzer and the Stray Cats also became MTV stars in the early '80s with the rockabilly-tinged "Stray Cat Strut" and "Rock This Town". In the middle of the following decade, Setzer took to the road with a jump bass and swing style act, The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
Tickets for Heart/Los Lonely Boys are $85, $75 and $35 for general admission to the lawn. They go on sale Friday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. Tickets for the Thorogood/Setzer show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20. Reserved seats are $75 and $65 and lawn seats are $35. Tickets may be purchase online for both concerts at http://www.gvctickets.com.
Other concerts are expected to be announced in the next few weeks, with a show being planned to coincide with the city's 4th of July celebrations and the casino's free fireworks show downtown.
"We have quite an exciting line-up this year. Stay tuned," casino marketer Mari Lu Pilman said.
