The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the city’s largest and most vibrant business network with a membership of more than 1,500 organizations, today applauded the agenda Mayor Lee outlined for 2015 in his State of the City address.

“Our members tell us all the time that the biggest issues facing business in San Francisco is growing, attracting and retaining top talent,” said Bob Linscheid, Chamber President and CEO.

“What this city desperately needs is additional housing that’s affordable to a greater range of family incomes and a transportation system that effectively and efficiently gets people where they need to go. The Mayor’s agenda calls for improving both and we look forward to working with him in the year ahead.”

The Chamber also voiced support for the Mayor’s education initiatives that include universal preschool for all 4 year olds and universal afterschool and summer school for all K-8 students. “Our young students deserve the best education we can provide them,” Linscheid said. “We want to ensure that San Francisco students are the best qualified for the jobs that we are growing here in San Francisco.”

Linscheid, however, did have one note of caution: “San Francisco’s economy is booming and our businesses are contributing to our city’s tax base. That base supports an array of social services and programs. We need to be careful not to overspend and over commit in these good times because we must avoid greater taxes, which we know will harm our business climate.”
