FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACTS Mike Wessler, Deputy Communications Director, 444-9725 Ronja Abel, Communications Director, 437-2359 Governor Bullock Announces Over $1 Million in Economic Development Grants to Businesses Across Montana for Growth and Expansion HELENA – Governor Steve Bullock and Montana Department of Commerce Director Meg O’Leary announced the award of $1.041 million in Big Sky Economic Development Trust Fund grants to seven businesses for business growth and expansion plans. “These grants are a great example of smart and strategic partnerships between the state of Montana and private business to responsibly grow Montana’s economy,” said Gov. Bullock. “From renewable energy to nutritional supplements and advanced manufacturing, the variety of projects funded shows that many Montana industries are growing and thriving.” The Big Sky Economic Development Trust Fund grant program, administered by the Montana Department of Commerce, is designed to create good-paying jobs and promote long-term, stable economic growth in Montana. Businesses can receive grants for projects that create net new jobs in their company and for business development and economic development planning projects. “These grant funds will support the creation of 139 new jobs in several Montana communities,” said Director O’Leary. “These jobs will be filled by our friends and neighbors, who will in turn contribute to our local economies and generate positive social and economic impacts.” Grants were awarded for both job creation and planning projects in Lolo, Hamilton, Billings, Manhattan, Big Sky, Bozeman, and Havre (Port of Wild Horse). Ari Novak, CEO of the Oracle Film Group, who received a grant to conduct a feasibility study on the possibility of opening an animation feature film studio in southwest Montana, noted that “Oracle Film Group is excited by the possibility of being able to move forward with this project that could have such a large impact on our businesses and create so many new opportunities and jobs here in Montana.” The recipients of Big Sky Economic Development Trust Fund grants include: Category I – Job Creation

Record 61% of Votes Cast by Absentee Ballot in Primary Election
Voter Turnout One of Highest in Past Decade
HELENA, MT – Secretary of State and Chief Elections Officer Linda McCulloch says more than 61% of the total votes cast in Montana’s 2012 primary election were cast by absentee ballot. The record is a nearly 30% increase over the last statewide presidential primary in 2008.
“Absentee voting has skyrocketed across the state, with more than 96% of those voting in Yellowstone County casting an absentee ballot,” Secretary McCulloch said. “It’s not just an upward trend. For many Montanans, it’s the preferred method of voting.”
County election offices issued a record 189,718 absentee ballots for the 2012 primary election, compared to 143,161 in the 2010 primary and 109,545 in the 2008 primary. Voters returned about 77% of the issued ballots, casting a record 146,312 votes by absentee ballot.
Voters also hit the polls on Election Day, contributing to a 37% voter turnout – the largest percentage in the past decade, excluding the 2008 presidential primary which drew 45% of the state’s registered voters.
“Montana has some of the most accessible and secure elections in the country,” Secretary McCulloch said. “Thanks to the state’s late registration laws, an additional 3,000 qualified citizens were able to cast their ballot in the primary, with more than 1,000 Montanans registering and voting on Election Day.”
Elections results for statewide, state district and county races became available to the public on the Secretary of State’s website shortly after the polls closed at 8:00 p.m. The transparent online service works in coordination with Montana’s 56 county Election Administrators who entered the results as they became available. Despite some counties experiencing tornadoes and loss of power due to the weather on election night, all 794 precincts were counted and reported by Wednesday morning.
“Thank you to the voters, election workers and volunteers for a continued commitment to upholding the integrity of Montana’s elections,” Secretary McCulloch said. “I’m looking forward to completing the official statewide canvass of election results in the coming weeks, and shifting our focus to the fall.”

Attorney General’s Legislative Priorities Continue to Advance
March 9, 2015
As the legislature continues its work after a mid-session break, a number of legislative priorities from Attorney General Tim Fox and the Montana Department of Justice have already been signed into law by the governor. The others continue to move through the process with broad bi-partisan support.
“Our legislators have been working long hours every day doing the people’s business, and they deserve the gratitude of every Montanan,” Fox said. “I am delighted they have worked together across party lines to pass many of the important public-safety and privacy-protection measures my office brought forward.”
