Press Release | 11:06 AM ET
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Cook from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman to Nashville, the club announced today.
Cook was 2-0 with one save in five relief appearances with the Sounds and did not allow a run in 5.2 innings. He has yielded just one hit for a .059 opponents batting average. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 16.88 ERA in five games with the A's this spring before he was optioned to Nashville March 24. Cook has pitched in 196 games for the A's over the previous three seasons and is 13-10 with a 2.77 ERA and 17 saves in 208 career appearances with the A's and Arizona.
Graveman began the season in the A's starting rotation and went 1-2 with an 8.27 ERA in four starts. He allowed a .343 opponents batting average and walked nine while striking out seven in 16.1 innings. Graveman tossed fewer than five innings in three of his four starts, including yesterday against Houston when he allowed six runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings for the loss.

Dodgers select contract of Sergio Santos
Bolsinger optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Cedeño designated for assignment
Press Release | April 24, 2015
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Sergio Santos, optioned right-handed pitcher Mike Bolsinger to Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeño for assignment.
Santos last pitched on Tuesday, with a scoreless inning of relief against Nashville (Athletics), and tossed scoreless relief in five of six appearances with Oklahoma City, posting a 3.86 ERA (2 ER/4.2 IP). The 31-year-old was a non-roster invitee at Spring Training and allowed seven runs (six earned) in 10.2 innings in 11 games (one start) with the Dodgers. The Los Angeles native was signed by the club as a free agent on Dec. 29, 2014 and has a 7-12 record with 39 saves and a 3.89 ERA in 180 games in five Major League seasons with the White Sox (2010-11) and Blue Jays (2012-14).
Bolsinger, the reigning Triple-A Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week, allowed just one run on five hits in 5.2 innings in a no-decision as the Dodgers' spot starter yesterday at San Francisco.
Cedeño was acquired on Wednesday from Washington in exchange for cash considerations.

Padres are exciting, even in a losing effort
J. Upton's two homers, five RBIs1:06
4/25/15: Justin Upton hits a two-run homer in the 1st and a three-run shot in the 6th to tally five RBIs vs. the Dodgers
By Bill Center / San Diego Padres | 12:37 PM ET
Bill Center, longtime sportswriter for U-T San Diego, is an employee of the Padres.
One thing the Padres aren't this season is boring. And that hasn't been the case in recent seasons. Even in Saturday night's 11-8 loss to the Dodgers at Petco Park, the Padres made it interesting -- and more than once.
Down, 3-0, in the top of the first, the Padres tied the game in the bottom of the inning on homers by outfielders Wil Myers (his first leading off a game in his career) and Justin Upton (who would later add a second). The Padres hit three homers in the game, as the teams combined for seven long balls -- one short of the Petco Park record for a game.
The two home runs in the first inning gave the Padres five first-inning homers on the season and 20 first-inning runs. In all of the 2014 season, the Padres scored a Major League-low 62 runs in the first inning.
Of course, the Dodgers won the first two games of the series, ending the Padres' streak of 12 straight winning series at Petco Park. The Padres had won 11 series and split one in a streak that started early last July.
From the scorebook
• Chula Vista, Calif., native Adrian Gonzalez has been ruthless against his hometown (and former) team. He is 13-for-22 against the Padres this season with three doubles, five home runs, 10 runs scored and 10 RBIs. That is a .591 batting average and a 1.409 slugging percentage. Beyond this season, Gonzalez has hit safely in 11 straight games against the Padres, batting .449 (22-for-49) since last Aug. 29 with eight homers and 13 RBIs. In 52 career games against the Padres, Gonzalez is hitting .341 (70-for-205) with 12 doubles, 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.
• Right-handed Padres starter Ian Kennedy had a rough return from the 15-day disabled list Saturday night. He allowed eight runs on eight hits, including three home runs, in just 4 1/3 innings. The runs were the third-most allowed by Kennedy in a game in his career and the most since he allowed a career-worst 10 runs on June 6, 2013. The three home runs tied his career-worst. Kennedy is 0-6 with a 5.74 earned run average in 10 starts against the Dodgers since Sept. 11, 2012.
• Myers' homer Saturday night was the first by a Padres leadoff hitter since outfielder Seth Smith connected last July 1 against Cincinnati. Myers has three homers and 12 RBIs out of the leadoff slot this season with 16 runs scored. In all of the 2014 season, Padres leadoff hitters had seven homers and 41 RBIs. Myers is 2-for-17 in his past four games, with both hits going for homers.
• Right fielder Matt Kemp is hitting .429 (9-for-21) with two doubles, three RBIs in five games against the Dodgers (his former team) this season. Kemp has hit safely in eight of his past nine games and 12 of his past 14, hitting .393 (22-for-56) with four doubles, a triple and a home run for 11 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Kemp had his ninth multihit game of the season Saturday night.
• Upton's two-homer game Saturday night was his first as a Padre and the eighth of his career. After hitting safely in the season's first 10 games and 13 of the first 14, Upton was in a 2-for-14 slump before he unloaded two shots against the Dodgers' Brandon McCarthy on Saturday night for five RBIs. Upton has a 12-game hitting streak against the Dodgers (15-for-43) during which he has three doubles, a triple, four homers and 16 RBIs. He has reached base in 17 straight games against the Dodgers -- the longest active streak.

Warriors Advance to Western Conference Semifinals
Golden State’s First Round Series Win Over New Orleans is Team’s First Four-Game Sweep Since 1975 NBA Finals
Posted: Apr 25, 2015
The Golden State Warriors have advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals in the 2015 NBA Playoffs following tonight’s 109-98 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, earning a 4-0 series victory over the Pelicans for their first four-game sweep since the 1975 NBA Finals against Washington. The Warriors will host Game 1 of the Semifinals against the winner of the first round series between Memphis and Portland. The earliest the Western Conference Semifinals could begin is next weekend.
In earning their fifth-ever series sweep (second in a best-of-seven series), the Warriors move on to the Western Conference Semis for the second time in three seasons and the third time in the team’s last four playoff appearances, previously completing first round series wins over Denver (2013) and Dallas (2007) to advance to the Semifinals.
After overcoming a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit in an overtime victory in Game 3 on Thursday, the Warriors led for a full three quarters en route to a double-digit series-clinching win over New Orleans in Game 4. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 39 points, hitting 6-of-8 from three-point range to set an NBA record for most three-pointers in a four-game playoff series (20). Draymond Green (20 points, 10 rebounds, playoff-career-high eight assists) became the first NBA player since Tim Duncan in 2003 to record four-straight postseason double-doubles with at least five assists in each game.

Redick Says Team Is Searching, But Not Surrendering
Posted: Apr 25, 2015
Rowan Kavner
SAN ANTONIO – It’s easier said than done to get a player going when he’s got to beat the Defensive Player of the Year to do so.
But head coach Doc Rivers knows better ball movement, which should ultimately result in better looks for J.J. Redick against Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, is important if the Clippers want to even the series.
“The fact he’s not getting good looks, and he is forcing it too a little bit, is on us,” Rivers said. “It’s on our pick setting, it’s on our body movement and it’s on our ball movement, and we didn’t do any of the three last night.”
Those were just some of the issues from a tough Game 3 the Clippers are trying to put behind them. Redick and Chris Paul each scored seven points apiece, and it was the first time since Jan. 26 that Redick had made just two shots and scored seven or fewer points in a game. It was also the first time the Clippers had just 14 assists in a game since Dec. 12.
“Their team overall has done a really good job,” Redick said. “They’ve put an emphasis on guarding me and obviously having the Defensive Player of the Year on me has been a challenge. He’s a great defender. I think part of the shooting struggles are just I’m not getting easy looks. I can make tough shots, but when the majority of shots are tough shots, it’s a little harder.”
Redick said he can’t remember too many games where he took seven shots in 30 minutes. He’s had seven or fewer shots during the season, but never while getting that much playing time in a game.
He credits part of his struggles, shooting 31.3 percent through three games, to the Spurs mixing up the coverages with Leonard and Danny Green.
“It’s kind of ironic, I did Zach Lowe’s podcast when we were in New York a month ago and he asked me who I thought the best wing defender was,” Redick recalled. “I said Kawhi and Danny Green, and that’s who I’m going against in the first round. It’s been a challenge, those guys are great.”
Redick said he’s not sure anyone will want to watch the tape from Friday night, but part of being in the playoffs is having a short-term memory. He said “there was some searching” from the team after the tough loss, with players questioning why they’re unable to score, and there are plenty of reasons for that.
He said the Spurs have been physical and have done particularly well limiting the Clippers out of timeouts and on the first plays of quarters, when the Clippers have typically scored quickly and easily.
“They’ve been in our air space,” Redick said. “They’ve really taken away the flow of our offense with the switches they’ve done, so it’s been a challenge for us to score. You have to give them credit, and we have to be better.”
But despite that, Redick said the team realizes it’s only down a game and can tie the series, win back home court and put Game 3 behind them by focusing on Sunday. He said no team gets extra points for blowing a team out, and these types of tight series can swing quickly, particularly if the Clippers can figure it out offensively.
He said the Clippers have to play with desperation.
“Mentally, we’re in a good place,” Redick said. “We’re not by any means in a sense of, ‘We’re giving up on the series,’ or, ‘We can’t beat these guys.’ We’ve proven we can beat them, but we have to be better to do that.”
Rivers added that it’s not as bad as anyone seems to think and his players aren’t “running around in a dark closet today.” He believes if the Clippers, the team with the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the regular season and the third best mark in assists during the regular season, can get back to what they do well, then they’re still in good shape.
Part of that is moving the ball the way they’re used to and setting better picks, which should get Redick more good looks, regardless of which player is marking him.
“Now it’s our chance to respond,” Rivers said. “We have to do it.”
Head Coach Byron Scott to Represent Lakers at Lottery
by Mike Trudell
Lakers Reporter
Posted: Apr 24, 2015
The Lakers are in a unique NBA position in which their head coach also happens to be a former key member of a championship era as a player.
Byron Scott, who ran the wing alongside Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy for the Showtime Lakers, just completed his first year as head coach, and is the team's choice to represent Los Angeles at the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery.
Struggling with well over 300 games lost to injury in 2014-15, the Lakers finished with the fourth-worst record in the NBA (21-61). That in term gives them the fourth-best chance to draw a top three selection in the lottery (37.8 percent).
Since the pick is top five protected, L.A. would convey it to Philadelphia (who acquired the pick from Phoenix, who'd originally obtained it from L.A. in the Steve Nash trade) if it lands outside the top five, which has around a 17 percent chance of happening. In such a case, two teams with lesser odds (teams finishing fifth to 14th from the bottom) would jump into the top three, pushing the Lakers to the sixth position.
The Lakers, however, are more than twice as likely to jump from fourth into the top three than they are to lose their selection.
Scott, himself the fourth overall selection out of Arizona State, will be hoping to at least maintain that slot when he represents the Lakers at the lottery.
Kings '30 for 30' Debuts at Tribeca
Get an inside look at ESPN’s feature film, as Kings.com attends the “Down in the Valley” premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Early in “Down in the Valley,” as Sacramento native and NBA-star-turned-mayorKevin Johnson describes the conditions of his deprived neighborhood and trying upbringing, his grandmother’s favorite saying serves as foreshadowing for his, and Kings fans, later herculean efforts.
“If a task has once begun, do not leave it until it’s done.”
As the 78-minute documentary – debuting in a 479-seat auditorium inside a quaint Chelsea, N.Y. theater – simultaneously chronicles Johnson’s and the Kings intertwined histories, at its core, the film explores the precious, loyal bond between a team and community, and the emotions engendered when that union is both at its highest peak and on the verge of crumbling.
“The K.J. story is really compelling and really interesting, but I would not have agreed to do the project until I met some of the grassroots fans and realized how passionate they were about the team staying,” explained six-time Emmy Award-winning director Jason Hehir on the SVA Theater red carpet. “That’s what resonated with me because I know what it means to be a fan.”
Before devoting ample time to chants, rallies and pivotal social media crusades, Hehir first lays the groundwork with a detailed look at the previously vagabond Kings road to finding residence in Northern California, as NBA sportswriter and historian Bob Ryan illuminates Sacramento’s aspirations and overwhelming enthusiasm for a sports identity.
“We were hoping to get 5,000 season tickets sold,” recalls original Kings Owner Gregg Lukenbill. “We ended up with applications for 25,000 tickets in a building that sat 10,000 people.”
Archived footage of the first game at ARCO Arena oozes with nostalgia – the electric environment still rivaling that of any sports venue – while a Playoff-like atmosphere resonates despite the team’s sub-.500 record over the course of the subsequent decade.
The film not only fluidly integrates viewpoints from interview participants, including former Kings All-Star Chris Webberand longtime NBA Commissioner David Stern – all of whom marvel at the uniqueness and fervor of the fanbase – but juxtaposes Johnson’s shift from basketball standout to aspiring politician with the Kings volatile on-court fortunes.
Breathtaking highlights of “the greatest show on court” during the late 1990s and early 2000s – a free-flowing, uptempo style contingent on constant motion and precise passing – scintillate to the booming bass of Outkast’s “Bombs Over Baghdad,” cowbells harmoniously clanging in the seats.
Moments later, as Webber and Sacramento radio personality Carmichael Dave reflect on the 2002 Western Conference Finals in separate interviews, a mutual pain resonates in their voices – agony that’s further escalated by mirrored recessions in both the team’s success and city’s declining fiscal climate.
“The political and economic landscape, in some weird way, it paralleled our basketball team,” tells Johnson, who was elected mayor on Nov. 4, 2008.
At the height of the downturn, “Down in the Valley” follows the threads emanating from the dark cloud of relocation to showcase early seeds of a grassroots movement, as fans pledge to donate thousands of dollars toward building a new arena and utilize Twitter campaigns as a vehicle to express their undying support.
The now iconic scene of Kings TV broadcasters Grant Napear and Jerry Reynolds delivering a teary signoff in between long pauses following the 2010-11 season finale – as thousands of diehards thunderously chant in the background and refuse to leave their seats – remains emotionally stimulating – both for the viewer and participants themselves.
“I was very emotional watching it – it brought me back to those moments, which were, at times, really hard to describe because of the ups and downs on a daily basis of what everybody was going through,” said Napear after the premiere. “(The film) was just so well-put together – it chronicled the entire emotional roller coaster that the city of Sacramento went through (and) just completely captured the amazing ride.”
Driven by a proud community galvanized in its front to save the Kings – as throngs of purple-and-black-clad devotees await his arrival at Sacramento International Airport and deafeningly chant outside the St. Regis Hotel in midtown Manhattan – Johnson’s confidence nor upbeat disposition ever show signs of cracking.
The Hall of Fame finalist – fighting off tears at the mere thought of a barren, silent basketball arena in The River City – makes it clear no obstacle would stand in the way of saving the beloved hometown franchise.
“It really felt like we were in a battle to protect something that was ours,” says Johnson. “It was about fighting for my city.”
As the documentary captures the back-and-forth intensity of negotiations in ensuing years, it demonstrates the complexities of the mayor’s obstacles and provides glimpses into his presentations to League executives and team owners, offering a revelatory, unflinching view from every standpoint.
The broader forces of the relocation committee’s decision to keep the Kings in Sacramento are most palpable when Johnson answers a blocked-number call from Stern and raises his arms in euphoric celebration, which transitions to a powerful snapshot of Carmichael Dave – tears streaming down his face – barely able to speak to a similarly weeping, speechless Napear.
“This is a love story – it’s a story of the fans of Sacramento and their team,” said Kings Principal Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé on the red carpet, adding construction on a downtown, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment center is well underway. “They got together and found a way to keep their team.”
At a post-screening Q&A session, Johnson – seated in a director’s chair with a luminous Tribeca Film Festival logo behind him – deflected countless praise thrust upon him to an integral group of spectators, asking all Sacramento natives in the audience to stand.
“This is a Sacramento story – these folks came from 3,000 miles away to be here, and they did their part to keep the team in Sacramento,” he said, looking out at hundreds of applauding supporters.
“Sacramentans – thank you.”

The SWARCO RAIDERS are red hot. In week 5 of the 2015 Austrian Football League (AFL) season The Oakland Raiders’ sister-team defeated the Vienna Vikings 30-17 (13-7; 0-3; 7-0; 10-7).
It was the Tyroleans’ fifth straight victory. The Vikings, who had won the first matchup 26-21 fell for the first time this season.
”I’m extremely proud of my team. Anytime you play the Vikings you have to shift into a higher gear and we sure did that today”, said SWARCO RAIDERS head coach Shuan Fatah. ”This was a great team effort”.
The Tyrolean defense forced five turnovers, including four interceptions. LB Simon Hoser returned an interception for a touchdown and the DBs Patrick Pilger, Alexander Achammer and Simon Unterrainer all picked off a Vikings pass. DB Enrico Martini recovered a fumble and DL Maximilian Pichler and LB Philipp Margreiter each had a sack.
QB Sean Shelton completed 18 of 30 passes for 233 yards with 2 touchdowns. He also had 12 rushes for 24 yards and a score. RB Fabien-André Gärtner had 9 rushes for 42 yards and scored on a 79-yard completion. WR Christian Willi caught 4 balls for 52 yards and a touchdown.
The SWARCO RAIDERS won the coin toss and elected to receive. DB Vincent Müller returned the opening kickoff to midfield. On the first play from scrimmage Shelton found WR Julian Ebner for 7 yards. Then RBSimon Muigg rushed for 16 yards. Two runs by Shelton gained 12 yards. Moments later the quarterback found Willi for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion failed, giving the Tyroleans a 6-0 lead with 8:40 minutes left in the first.
After WR/K Fabian Abfalter’s kickoff RB Miroslav Stankic returned the ball to the Vienna 47. Two passes from QB Alexander Thury to WR Stefan Postel gained 30 yards. After a 15-yard penalty the Vikings were at the 3. A few plays later Thury threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to WR Bernhard Raimann. K Christopher Kappel made the PAT to give Vienna a 7-6 lead with 5:29 minutes left in the first.
Starting their second drive at their own 30 the SWARCO RAIDERS began with a 13-yard completion from Shelton to WR Max Tollinger. After a 6-yard pass to Muigg and completions of 17 and 12 yards to Willi the Tyroleans were at the Vikings 22. Then Gärtner ran for 12 yards and on the next play Shelton scored from 10 yards out. Abfalter kicked the PAT to give the Tyroleans a 13-7 lead with 2:35 minutes left in the first.
The next drives ended with punts on both sides. Then Postel fumbled and Martini recovered the ball at the Tyrolean 9. After a SWARCO RAIDERS punt Vienna started at its 45. A run by RB Islaam Amadu gained 11 yards. Then Thury found WR Manuel Thaller for 24 yards. With 17 seconds left in the second quarter Kappel kicked a 29-yard field goal to cut the Tyroleans’ lead to 13-10.
Vienna’s first drive of the second half ended with a punt after Pichler had sacked Thury on the drive’s third play. On the ensuig punt return Martini lost the ball and the Vikings recovered. They couldn’t cash in on the turnover though as Thury’s fourth down pass fell incomplete and the SWARCO RAIDERS regained possession at their 39.
Midway through the third quarter the SWARCO RAIDERS took over at their own 15. Ebner caught a 15-yard pass from Shelton. A penalty cost the team 10 yards, but on the very next play Shelton threw a short pass to Gärtner who broke free and ran 79 yards for a touchdown. Abfalter’s extra point gave the Tyroleans a 20-10 lead with 4:35 minutes left in the third.
Vienna’s next drive ended with a turnover though. After marching to the Tyrolean 40 Pilger picked off a pass. After a short return and a penalty the SWARCO RAIDERS took over at the opposing 35. Shelton found Ebner for 11 yards. Then WR Adrian Platzgummer caught a 25-yarder. A few plays later Abfalter kicked a 28-yard field goal to give the home-site a 23-10 lead with 10:34 minutes left in the fourth.
The clock was ticking and Vienna needed to tried a more pass-happy approach. But it backfired when Hoser picked off a pass from Thury and returned the interception 25 yards for a touchdown. The PAT gave the SWARCO RAIDERS a 30-10 lead with 9:35 minutes left.
On Vienna’s next possession Unterrainer intercepted Thury. After a 10-yard return the Tyrolean offense took over. Shelton led his team to midfield before he punted the ball away. The Vikings began their next drive at their own 20. Thury threw 12 yards to Postel and found Thaller for 28. After a penalty against the Tyroleans Thury threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to WR Mathias Baldauf. The PAT cut the SWARCO RAIDERS lead to 30-17 with 4:40 minutes left.
After another SWARCO RAIDERS punt Vienna’s last stand ended when Achammer intercepted Thury.
The SWARCO RAIDERS play their next game on Saturday, May 2. They host German champion New Yorker Lions Braunschweig in the BIG6. With a win the Tyroleans will advance to the Eurobowl.

Six young athletes representing the Chargers will join 35 other youngsters from across the United States to compete in the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick National Finals Saturday, Jan. 10, in Seattle during the weekend of the NFC Divisional Playoff Game.
Finalists will compete separately in five age divisions at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Wash., with the top scorer in each group crowned national champion. All participants launch two punts, two passes and two kicks with scores based on distance and accuracy (in feet). The best score from each activity is tabulated to determine the athlete’s total. All youngsters advanced to the national finals through local, sectional and team championship competitions held throughout the NFL regular season. The top four scorers in each age group from across the country qualified as national finalists.
NFL Punt, Pass & Kick, which began in 1961, is celebrating its 53rd anniversary. It is one of the nation’s largest grassroots sports skills competitions. NFL stars – including Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Dan Marino – competed in the Punt, Pass & Kick program as youngsters.
“USA Football is pleased to manage the Punt, Pass & Kick program,” USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said. USA Football is the sport’s national governing body and the official youth development partner of the NFL and its 32 teams. “This fun football competition rooted in fundamental skills continues to capture the imagination of young athletes, boys and girls alike. We congratulate our national finalists and look forward to an exciting Saturday in Seattle.”
All participants and their guests are provided airfare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the NFC Divisional Playoff Game between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers.

HALL OF FAMER BOB ST. CLAIR PASSES
Former San Francisco 49ers tackle, Bob St. Clair, passed away Monday at the age of 84. A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1990) and the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame (2009), St. Clair spent his entire 12-year career as a member of the 49ers (1953-64).
"With the passing of Bob St. Clair, the 49ers organization has not only lost an all-time great but one of our most ardent supporters,” said 49ers Owner and Chairman John York. “One of San Francisco’s favorite sons, Bob spent the better part of his life at Kezar Stadium and was quite happy to share memories of his high school days or his 49ers tenure in the beloved venue. I always looked at him as an immortal figure that possessed a tremendous joy for life and all things 49ers. We will continue to celebrate the spirit of Bob St. Clair as we remember all that he brought to this franchise and its fans. Our prayers and best wishes are with his family and friends.”
A Bay Area native, St. Clair attended San Francisco Polytechnic High School and later began his college career at the University of San Francisco, where he remained until the school’s football program folded in 1951. He completed his collegiate career at Tulsa and was later selected by the 49ers in the third round (32nd overall) of the 1953 NFL Draft. Interestingly, St. Clair was one of nine players from San Francisco’s 1951 team to enter professional football.
St. Clair’s illustrious career included five starts in the Pro Bowl and All-NFL selections in nine of his 12 professional seasons. He blocked for the 49ers “Million Dollar Backfield” as QB Y.A. Tittle and RBs John Henry Johnson, Hugh McElhenny and Joe Perry would all be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Popular among his teammates, he was nicknamed “The Geek” as a result of what some considered unusual lifestyle habits, such as eating all of his meat raw.
A three-time team captain (1957-59), St. Clair saw action in 119 games with the 49ers. While St. Clair was an exceptional blocker on offense, he was also used on defense in goal line situations throughout the early portion of his career. He contributed on special teams as well, where he was credited with 10 blocked field goals. St. Clair suffered an Achilles injury prior to the 1964 season and did not appear in a game that year. He subsequently retired.
Following his playing career, St. Clair served as the Mayor of Daly City from 1961-62, a period of great economic prosperity sparked by the construction of Interstate 280 and the related development of the city. When his political career came to an end, St. Clair went to work for Clover, one of the largest milk providers in Northern California, handling sales and public relations.
In 2001, after having played more than 180 prep and professional games in Kezar Stadium, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors named the venue’s field in honor of St. Clair. He was born on February 18, 1931.

Boudreau Previews Second Round Series vs. Calgary
Sunday, 04.26.2015 / 11:45 AM PT / News
Calgary's 7-4 comeback victory last night in Game 6 of the First Round vs. Vancouver punched them a ticket to the Second Round and a date with the Ducks. The series schedule, which has yet to be released, will begin at Honda Center sometime later next week. Earlier today, Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau shared his thoughts on what he expects in Anaheim's Second Round series vs. the Calgary Flames via conference call.
On the challenges the Flames present
It’s a different challenge. I don’t think they’re as big or physical as Winnipeg, but they skate and compete just as hard, or better. They’re a smaller team by size, but a lot quicker. Those are going to be definite challenges for us.
On matchups and personnel vs. Calgary
We’re playing a different team, so sometimes there are different matchups. Some guys are better in the lineup than other guys. Some guys have played really good against Calgary and have had success against them, so that will come into play. We’ll sit down with the coaches either today or tomorrow morning. We’ll figure it out on what we think is the best thing to do. All of these things are set up for Game 1. They’re not set up for anything because nobody knows how it’s going to turn out.
On the difficulty of making a lineup change when the team is playing well
It’s a tough thing to do, but at the same time, everybody on our team knows we’re a 20-plus team. Everybody is going to be used. The further we go, you’ve got a good chance of playing. You’re basically all for one, one for all. Everybody wants to play, but at the same time, if somebody had to sit out, they’d understand.
On Calgary’s resiliency
They’ve been doing it all year. They’re a team that never quits. The minute you think you‘ve got them, they know how to apply an awful lot of pressure. The first time we played them [in Calgary] this year, we had a 2-0 lead going into the third and they ended up scoring three quick goals. We ended up tying it up, but we lost in a shootout. We all watch their games and read about them. We know their capabilities. We know they never quit. It’s going to be a 60-minute game on both sides all the time.
On the importance of holding onto leads
We’re hoping that if we get a lead, we’ll hold onto it. But at the same time, looking around the league, there have been an awful lot of leads in the playoffs that haven’t been able to be held onto. Nashville has had a couple, Vancouver had a couple. In today’s day and age, with the rules, you can’t just sit back and play defense. There is too much parity and too many things can happen when the puck is in your zone.
On Calgary’s play with the puck
They’re pretty dangerous with the puck. They have some guys who can skate. Their defense is extremely active, probably the most active in the league. Even though Winnipeg’s defense was active, I think these guys are more active. It’s going to be quite a challenge for our forwards to make sure we can come back in front of their defense.
On if Mark Giordano becomes available in this series
I have no idea. I don’t know if they were fooling us, but on TV yesterday they said he should be available for the third round. They said the same thing about Patrick Kane, and he ended up playing right away. They’re keeping mum on the word. We’ll have to play it by ear. If he’s in, we’ll have to adjust. He’s a great player, and would add a lot to their team. We’ll see how it works out.
On if he expects to see both Jonas Hiller and Karri Ramo in the series
We’ll game plan for both of them for sure. We’ll go over both of their trends. Quite frankly, if you see both, that’s a good thing for you because that means the other one hasn’t played that well in that moment of time. We will definitely plan for either one being in the net at some point in time.
On if he’s been a part of a long break between series
Not in this league. In the American Hockey League, the layoffs could be quite long. I remember a long time ago we had a 17-day layoff at some point. Over there, there is so much going on about dates in the league and the availability of the building. Sometimes you just had to wait. The team has practiced really well. They’ve stayed motivated. Whether we start Thursday, Friday or whenever, I think our guys will be ready.
On Calgary’s attributes
They have a couple of physical players, but at the same time, we’ve played them five times this year and they’re more of a skating team than a physical team. I’m trying not to say they’re not physical. [Deryk] Engelland, [Brandon] Bollig and [Michael] Ferland … these guys are as physical as anybody in the league, but at the same time, they’re noted more for the [Sean] Monahans, [Jiri] Hudlers, [Johnny] Gaudreaus and guys of that ilk. They’re more a skating team than a crash-and-bash team.
On if the familiarity with Hiller (and vice versa) helps both sides
It’s an even split. He’s seen all of our shooters every day and their tendencies, and we’ve seen his tendencies. I don’t think anybody has an advantage on that.
